Airplane travel has become a straightforward business these days. We go into airplanes, feel safe for the entire time of the trip, and land in another destination.

When we create travel itineraries, we make sure that every stop on that travel itinerary is connected by a flight—cheap flights, to be exact; we want to save as much money as possible.

For that reason, we find ourselves always on the lookout for cheap flight tickets and, fortunately, we always come across cheap flight deals when we’re online browsing different flight booking sites.

However, do we take as much time to look into the different airplane facts that jump into our minds every time we board a plane and escape our thoughts every time we land?

In this article, we are going to focus on some airplane facts by telling you in detail about everything that is related to them—that is, we are going to focus on the reasons behind each hitherto unexplained, airplane-related thing.

Windows and Seats Don’t Always Line Up

You might have noticed thins while you were on one of your flights (or might not have noticed)—the seats on airplanes do not always line up with the windows. We are sure that this would give some people an OCD case, but airlines are not going to change that any time soon.

Each airline company decides the number of seat rows that will be included in each plane; and they do not care if too many seats aren’t going to line up with the windows. This is more prominent with cheap airline flights.

1. Purchasing airline tickets with the wrong date

Sometimes all it takes for you to buy flight tickets for the wrong day is having your finger slips in the keyboard, and then there are two scenarios: one, it really doesn’t make a difference and you can travel one day earlier or one day later; or two, you have to spend a lot of money on change fees if you want to arrive there on time, which can be pretty bad for your travel plan.

2. Not listening to the boarding announcement

This one sounds pretty dumb, but it can happen to anyone, especially if there is a flight delay. One moment you’re either walking around the airport or reading a book to pass time and the next thing you know is that you are about to miss your flight or already missed it because you didn’t pay attention to the updates!

3. Choosing the wrong place on the GPS

You choose a travel destination, book a trip, get yourself a rental car and take the family, let’s say, to visit a museum in France. You put the name in the GPS and you drive all the way there just to find out that that’s not the place you were meant to go to and that, in fact, there is a museum with a slightly different spelling, which is the one you wanted to visit. That can happen, it has happened and it is not amusing at all. But at least it is a funny story to share at dinner parties, right?

4. Driving away on a rental car

This is not exactly your fault, because the only way that this can happen to you is if the valet gives you the wrong car keys. But because we know it is a possibility, the best advice we can give you is to make sure that you always double-check if that is your car – look at the license plate before driving off into the sunset with someone else’s vehicle.

5. Taking medications that make you sleepy

Air travel can be tricky, and there will be times where your flight will be delayed – this can extend from a couple of minutes to a few hours. And then you are not feeling so great and you take an Ambien – next thing you know is that you are asleep in the lounge, and you are sleeping so soundly you miss the boarding announcement, and, as a consequence, you miss your flight.

6. Getting on the wrong train

This can happen in different ways – you can mistake the boarding date, catch the train going in the wrong direction, or be on the wrong platform. But the worst thing about this is not the fact that you got into the wrong train – the worst part is finding out about it when it’s already too late, meaning that even if you come back you will still miss the train you were supposed to be in.

7. Not double-checking your flight time

Sometimes airlines can change the schedule of your flight, and by mistake, there is a small chance you won’t get a warning on that. Just to be safe, be sure to double-check the flight time ALWAYS, by using the airline app or the website, for example. If this happens to you though, the airline has to get you into another flight since the mistake was their responsibility and not yours.

8. Trying to go somewhere without directions

Some people like to use public transportation while on vacation, while other people prefer to rent a car and drive around. But not having the directions ready can be a risk, since you can end up driving around aimlessly for hours on end. And imagine doing this after booking a hotel room for a busy day, like the 4th of July – there is a chance that by the time you get to the hotel the staff has given away your hotel room.

9. Checking your luggage the wrong way

Carry on luggage is great because you can take it with you on the plane and you don’t have to wait for it after landing. But, if you are going on a long trip, you will need more travel gear, and if you need to overnight somewhere, you need to be sure to check your bag to the overnight location, and then check it again before the next plane departures, thus minimizing the risk of it getting lost.

10. Not checking the place you are renting

Online booking gives you the advantage of cross-referencing the booking notes of the owner with the reviews made by people who have stayed in that same place. You should always do your homework and read them carefully to make sure you don’t get any unpleasant surprises when you arrive at your destination.

11. Thinking that you know the language

We all like to learn a couple of new words when we choose to go on vacation to a country where they speak a different language. However, you need to be careful enough and make sure that you really know what you are saying, because there are some words that can be really similar and you, as a foreigner, won’t know the difference. The result can be funny, but it can also be offensive, so it’s always good to pay attention.

12. Not traveling as much as you should

The worst mistake a person who loves to travel can make is to not travel enough. Of course, you have your whole life ahead of you, but when you are younger, traveling is a completely different experience – you are more adventurous, you have more energy and it is the best time in life to explore. So, what are you waiting for? Book a trip!
